Thekkady is a hill station located in Kerala. There are many places to see in Thekkady as far as Thekkady tourism is concerned. Many tourists from abroad and different parts of India come here. The major attraction of this place is the Periyar wildlife sanctuary and the boat cruise along the lake in Thekkady. This wild life sanctuary is situated around the Mullaperiyar lake. The lake was formed when the Mullaperiyar dam was constructed across the Periyar river. There are boat services to see the widlife of the sanctuary. The boats will carry tourists across the lake. During the boat cruise many wild animals can be see close to the bank. It is one of the very few wild life sanctuaries in India where it is possible to see wild animals while travelling in a boat. The common animals that can be seen during the boat cruise are Elephants, Wild Boar, Bison, Deer, Monkeys, Langurs etc.

The weather in Thekkady is pleasant throughout the year. The temperature is moderate throughout the year. The temperatures does not reach extreme weather conditions any time of the year.

This is also a place where it is possible to see wild life during the boat cruise.

Reaching Thekkady

Thekkady is accessible by road. Nearest airport is Madurai 115km away. This place can also be reached from Cochin International Airport which is approximately 150km away. The nearest railway station is Kottayam. For tourists who wish to travel by bus, they can get bus from Kottayam bus terminal or Cochin. The bus terminus in Kottayam is located about hundred meters away from this railway station.

Peerumedu : This is a small hill station situated on the way from Kottayam and Kumily. Many tea estates can be seen around peerumedu

Parunthanpara: is a place between kottayam and Kumily. Parunthanpara means Eagle’s Rock. This is a big Rock situated near a cliff. From this Rock it is possible to have a bird’s eye view of the valley below.
