Kovalam beach is located in the Southern part of Kerala. Many tourists from abroad and within India come here to relax in this beach. With Coconut trees all around, this beautiful beach is located close to Thiruvananthapuram city. The light house beach in Kovalam is the most popular beach for tourists. It is called light house beach because of the presence of a 30 meter long light house in the area. The next most important popular beach in Kovalam is the Hauwa beach or Eve’s beach.
The nearest railway station is Thiruvanathapuram. The nearest airport is Thiruvanthapuram international airport. It is possible to reach Kovalam from Thiruvanthapuam by car or bus. The distance between Thiruvanthapuram and Kovalam is approximately 20 kilometers.
Kovalam beach rose to prominence in the early 1920’s. The rulers of the erstwhile princely state of Travancore built a Castle there. European guests, who were invited by the Travancore rulers used to visit the castle. In the 1970’s this was an important tourists spot for the hippies.
