Hill Stations

The Western Ghat mountain ranges extend from North  to Southern Kerala. This mountain ranges have a unique ecosystem. They receive plenty of rainfall and is home to a wide variety of species . There are many Hill stations in Kerala along this western Ghats mountains. Some of the major hill stations are listed below.

Hill stations

Munnar : is the most popular hill station in Kerala. Munnar is located in the Idukki district of Kerala. The major attractions in this place are the tea estates, cardamom estates, Dams for boating, National Park for Nilgiri Tahr, Mountain Peaks. Boating and trekking are the major attractions in the region. The nearby places such as Chinnakknal, Devikulam, Matttupetty Kundala are some of the places to see in Munnar.

Thekkady is another hill station where tourists can see plenty of wild life. There are also tea estates on the way to Thekkady. The major attraction of this area is the Periyar Tiger Reserve and boating in Thekkady. During the 45 minutes boat cruise it is possible to see a variety of wild life along the lake shore.

Vagamon : is a hill station between Kottayam and Idukki district of Kerala. The major attraction of this place is the pine forest. There are also three pilgrim centers nearby. There are also tea estates close to Vagamon.  Paragliding events are held here once every year. As this hill station is not commercially exploited, less tourists come here.

Wayanad  : is another hill station in the Northern part of Kerala. There are a few tourists resorts in Vythiri.  There are some tea estates and wild life sanctuaries in Wayanad.  Pre-Historic caves called Edakkal caves dating back about 6000 B.C. is located near Kalpetta in Wayanad.

Nelliampathy : This hill station is located in Palakkad district of Kerala. Some of the popular locations near Nelliyampathy are Pothundy dam ,Tea Estates. Forest and Organic Farms in the area.
