Parunthumpara is a tourist spot located in Idukki district of Kerala. This place is located near Peerumade close to Kottayam Kumily road. This place is ideal spot for tourists travelling to Thekkady. A short visit in the evening or moring is ideal. Tourists arriving fom Kochi and Alleppey can take a small break at this spot. Also tourists who are returning from Thekkady can stop here on their way back.
Parunthumpara means eagle’s rock in local Malayalam language. The most attractive spot in this place is a huge rock on the top of a cliff. From here any one can have a bird’s eye view of the surrounding hills and deep ravines. The landscape of the area is a typical grassland.The cool breeze provides a soothing mood to visitors. This is also a weekend spot for tourists. The place is suitable place for a one day visit. The edges of the steep cliffs have been protected by fence. There is a walkway for tourists to enjoy the splendid view of the nearby areas. From the walk way the lush greenery, narrow streams and mist leaves a lasting impression on the passers by. Those who are interested in a bit of adventure can climb up the rock to get a splendid view from the top. The view from top of the rock is impressive as one can feel like being on the top most spot. During rainy season many narrow streams can be seen all around. The nearby pilgrim centre of Sabarimala can be seen. There also small vendors selling snacks and food items. It is an ideal place for one day sight seeing.
The place is located 25km from Thekkady and about 3 km from Kottayam – Kumily highway.
It can be reached from Kochi via Vagamon. Tourists coming from Alleppey can come via Kanjirapally.
